Dated: 30th August 2016, All India Inter School IPSC Badminton Tournament organized by Pestle Weed College, under the aegis of Indian Public School Conference concluded today. Shri Ashok Kumar, IPS, ADGP Uttarakhand was the Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony of the tournament. In all 22 schools participated in this tournament namely, Pinegrove School, Himachal Pradesh, Birla Vidya Mandir Nainital, Modern School Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, DPS RK Puram New Delhi, The Doon School Dehradun, Welham Boys Dehradun, Mayo College Ajmer, Punjab Public School Nabha Punjab, Birla Public School Pilani, DPS Mathura Road, New Delhi, Sri Dashmesh Academy Punjab, Genesis Global School Greater Noida, Daly College Indore, Sainik School Ghorakhal, Sainik School Rewa, Lawrence School Lovedale Ooty, The Emerald Heights International School Indore, Vallabh Ashram, L.K. Singhania School Gotan, B.K. Birla Centre for Education Pune, Army School Dagsai, Lawrence School Sanawar and host Pestle Weed College Dehradun in three different categories i.e. U-14, U-17 & U-19 Boys. The tournament was played for team as well as individual titles and in the process of selecting the IPSC Badminton team on a merit basis to represent IPSC in School Games Federation of India. The Chief Guest of the day, Shri Ashok Kumar expressed his deep sense of satisfaction and excitement, watching the talented boys exhibiting high standards skills in the courts. Shri Ashok Kumar congratulated the winners of team championships as well as individual championships and also motivated the runners up and other participants to keep playing with zeal & enthusiasm in the upcoming tournaments. Shri Ashok Kumar bringing in light the importance of Games & Sports said, “Earlier Games & Sports were played as recreational & fitness activities whereas in the changing world today, Games & Sports have emerged as career options. We have witnessed Indian talent, P.V. Sindhu proving India’s mettle in Badminton in the Rio Olympics.” He advised the budding students to keep participating in the plethora activities organized by their respective institution in order to ensure their wholesome growth. Shri Prem Kashyap, Principal Pestle Weed College congratulated all the champions, the coaches of winning teams and their Principals for bringing laurels to their respective institutions. Shri Kashyap said, “IPSC provides an extensive platform for the school children to develop their talents and sharpen their skills. Pestle Weed College thankful to the IPSC for bestowing the opportunity to host the All India Inter School IPSC Badminton Tournament 2016.” Shri Kashyap applauded the efforts of Coaches & Managers who worked behind the screen to showcase the young talent for all of us. He also blessed and wished luck to the runners up and other participants for their future endeavours. The finals of the individual championship, U-14, U-17 & U-19 were played today and the results were as follows: - In Individual Championship U-14 Boys category, in all 64 players participated for individual title, wherein Prajwal of Emerald Heights, Bangalore won the individual title defeating Ayan of Pinegrove School in straight sets with 21-12 & 21-12. In U-17 yrs Boys, Individual Championship 92 players contested for the title in which Nishit of Modern School Barakhamba grabbed the title, outplaying Akash of Daly College Indore. This match was a thrill to watch both the players had a neck to neck competition and took the match to the decider with scores 17-21, 21-18, 21-17. In U-19 yrs Boys, Individual Championship 64 players presented a stiff competition for the title. Siddhant of DPS Mathura Road emerged champion by defeating Vatsal of The Emerald Heights in straight sets with 21-17, 21-18. In the team championship finals played yesterday, Emerald Heights proved their dominance and emerged champions in U-14 yrs and in the U-17 yrs and U-19 yrs, Modern School Barakhamba Road grabbed the title. The other dignitaries present at the Closing Ceremony of the tournament were Shri Anil Mehra, Member BOG, Smt. Kiran Kashyap, Principal Children’s Academy, Mr. Akash Kashyap, Director PWC, Smt.
